Fashionably Late

The “Fashionably Late” series pays tribute to bygone icons & artists with a satirical poke at celebrity obsession and the sensationalism of death. Popular culture crafts shimmering disembodied hero brands for us to worship. We create a cultural currency by declaring our subscriptions to these various brands are a reflection of our identities and hold value. While the relationships with these brands can feel real, particularly when they die, we don’t personally know the human beings behind the characters. Their deaths merely become an ironic rebirth into the realm of pop immortality.

THE FINE PRINT:
This series of artworks, both individually and as an entire collection, is created as an expression of artistic opinion using satirical visual social commentary to parody the public’s ironic obsession with celebrity and death. The subject’s perceived celebrity status and/or historical significance (whether deemed valid or not), and subsequent posthumous deification are the only criteria for their inclusion in the artwork. The artwork is not to be interpreted as a representation of any of the subject’s personal works, property, or trademarks. This artwork (individually or in its entirety) is not endorsed or sponsored by, or otherwise affiliated with any of its respective subjects in any way whatsoever.
